AFC Shepherds Arms Cup Run 2005/06

Challenge Cup

17/9 H Sandal Wanderers WON 6 v 3
The first cup game of the season saw an impressive start scoring 6 goals passed Sandal Wanderers from the Old Boys League. 1 x goal from Phil Shuff, 2 x goals from Chris Colley and a Hat-Trick from Dave Ramsey earned us a comfortable win from what could have been a tricky fixture.
19/11 H Woodhouse Hill WMC Lost 2 v 4
This fixture was always going to be very difficult with Woodhouse Hill having a proven record in cups and already beating some hefty opponents. Even with two goals from on form Dave Ramsey could not avoid defeat in this game.
Callaghan Cup

8/10 H AFC Forresters WON 2 v 1
The second cup game as AFC Shepherds Arms put us against Forrsters from our own division. Even though we had already beaten them in the league 5 - 1, this was going to be a tough game. Once again it took two goals from on form Dave Ramsey to win the game, more comfortably than the score suggests.
7/1 A St Michaels Res. WON 1 v 4
St Michaels Reserves had already beaten teams well above them and Shepherds Arms had to be careful. On the Duck Pond pitch at Wakefield Park anything could happen. However, it did take first goals of teh season from - Dean Newbold, James Fox and Simon Mason plus the 21st goal of the season from dave Ramsey to make this a quite comfortable win.
4/2 H Snydale Athletic Lost 0 v 3
Time to pit our wits against a Premiership side - although the scoreline flattered the visitors, Shepherds Arms gave a good account of themselves and knew it was going to be one of those days when we hit the bar 3 times, the 2 times and had 1 cleared off the line.

League Cup

5/11 H White Bear Kexborough Lost 0 v 2
What is always considered the best chance for silverware was pie in the sky for this season as new team on the block came to an inform Shepherds Arms having not lost a game at this stage of the season. White Bear were out of the blocks too quickly for The Sheps and were always on top. White Bear won the game with an impressive display - watch this team - they will be up there at the end of the season.

Landlords Trophy

2/10 H Nightingale Lost 2 v 5
The Landlords always throws up a good cup tie and this was no exception. Old foes Nightingale who we have many a good game against, came to Parker Road not losing a league game all last season and doing very well in all cup competitions. They were slightly better on the day and the scoreline flattered them slightly, although they did deserve to win.

Seymour Memorial Trophy

16/10 A Wrenthorpe Rangers WON 1 v 3
Seymour Cup threw us against our fellow promotion team from last season and Wrenthorpe always prove hard to beat. On a day when everything came together - Shepherds Arms came out on top. I am sure there will be some good league games to come between the two us.
15/1 A Thorntree Lost 2 v 0
Having played a friendly at the start of the season and Throntree coming out on top 6 - 1, Shepherds Arms were looking to prove a point against the Premiership team. Everything all square at 80 minutes until an unfortunate bobble and own goal gave Throntree the lead. 20 minutes earlier Sheps missed a golden chance to go ahead after Oli Johnson had rounded the keeper. The last kick of the game saw Throntree add a further goal. A well fought game that had both sides thinking.

League Cup

22/1 H Walton S & SC WON 10 v 2
After last years success, Shepherds Arms were looking to get off to a flying start. Didn't quite happen with Walton going ahead after 5 minutes. After composing themselves they started to drive forward and with impressive displays all over the field they came out well on top - goals from Jamey Cox (Captain), Paul Beaumont, Chris Durham, 2 from Dave Ramsey and 4 from Oli Johnson. A further goal was added to the tally by Andrew Wilkinson (Goal Keeper).
12/2 A Bretton Hall Tigers - Q/F WON 4 v 7
Having been narrowly beaten earlier in the season by Bretton - Shepherds Arms wanted to avenge the result and started well. Never behind in the game - Shepherds could not rest as Bretton always pushed. Goal scorers were Jamey Cox (Captain), Dave Ramsey 2 and Oli Johnson 3. Shaun Taylor also got on the score sheet after a long time on the sidelines recovering from a broken leg last season.
5/3 H Crofton Colts Res - SEMI WON 3 v 2

A repeat of last years Semi Final which saw The Shepherds Arms win 6 - 5. Crofton are currently top of the division with The Sheps having games in hand - this will prove an interesting and challenging game.

As Expected this was a totally different game to the one in the league two weeks previous. Crofton were stronger and in some areas which resulted in an exciting and at some times a nail biting game.

It was 0 - 0 at half time, with Shepherds Arms not reaching the standards that had been set since Christmas. It was Oli Johnson - the top scorer who put The Sheps ahead and everything was looking good for a repeat win and another trip to a final.

However. Crofton had something to say about that and they battled hard to pull the game level after a mistake down the right hand side. Following a slip on the edge of the box - one of the Crofton strikers hit the ball on the run which left Andy Wilkinson - in the nets - with no chance at all. A great strike to put Crofton ahead.

Although it was looking difficult at this stage - the Sheps felt that always had something extra to give. Following a great run down the left and a fumbled shot Oli somehow fumbled the ball over the line to pull the score level. Two minutes later following Tid chasing a ball down and cutting the ball backi - Oli scored the best of his 3 goals with a great finish.

At 3 - 2, there was no way back for Crofton after a couple of their heads went down - all The Sheps needed to do was close out the last 10 minutes.

An excellent game - which saw Crofton lose to The Sheps for the second year in a row at the Semi Final stage. Well done Crofton - it was a good game.
